Skills for Inclusion- The Launch

At RippleAfrica Trust Foundation, we are never tired of changing and transforming lives. This time, our focus is on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), a group that is too often overlooked. Recognizing the need for inclusion and opportunity, RippleAfrica Trust Foundation began an initiative aimed at training 48 young PWDs between the ages of 14 and 27 in digital and vocational skills.

As part of our commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods, one of the vocational skills included in the training is waste conversion. This approach not only equips participants with income-generating skills but also reinforces our dedication to environmental sustainability and economic empowerment. By turning waste into valuable products, participants will gain practical skills that can support long-term self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

The project officially kicked off on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, with a community sensitization exercise at the PWD colony in Karonmagiji Abuja. Despite the hot afternoon sun, community members turned out in large numbers to learn more about the project and the opportunity it presents. The day began with a courtesy visit to the Emir’s Palace, where the project team received blessings and prayers before proceeding to engage the community members. The warm reception from community members reflected their excitement and their optimism served as a reminder of the impact that inclusive development initiatives can have when communities and their leaders are actively engaged.

As the project progresses, we look forward to witnessing the changes we will see in the young participants. The long term goal of this training is that it will reduce the number of PWDs on the street and encourage self-employment and dependence and also encourage them that their disability does not prevent them from learning a skill or running a business.
